Saudi Arabia, Iran underline significance of following up, implementing Beijing agreement

Saudi Arabia and Iran stressed the importance of following up and activating the implementation of the agreement from Beijing in a way that enhances mutual trust, expands the scope of cooperation and contributes to achieving security, stability and prosperity in the region.

This was in a joint statement issued at the end of the talks between the Saudi and Iranian foreign ministers in the Chinese capital of Beijing Thursday, taking into consideration what was included in the joint tripartite statement of Saudi Arabia, Iran and China issued on the tenth of last March regarding the resumption of relations between the Kingdom and Iran, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) stated.

Both sides were keen to discuss ways to enhance bilateral relations and activate the security cooperation agreement between them signed on April 17, 2001, and the general agreement for cooperation in the field of economy, trade, investment, technology, science, culture, sports and youth signed on May 27, 1998, the agency indicated.

The two countries agreed to reopen their diplomatic missions during the agreed period, to proceed with taking the necessary measures to open the embassies of both countries in Riyadh and Tehran, and their general consulates in Jeddah and Mashhad.

They want to continue coordination between the technical teams to discuss ways to enhance cooperation between them, including the resumption of flights and visits, mutual support for official delegations and the private sector, and facilitating the granting of visas to citizens of the two countries, including Umrah visas, it said.

Both countries expressed their aspiration to intensify consultative meetings and discuss ways of cooperation to achieve more prospects that are positive for relations, given the natural resources and economic potentials that they possess and great opportunities to achieve mutual benefit for the people, it explained.

The two sides agreed to enhance their cooperation in everything that would achieve security and stability in the region and to serve the interests of its countries and people, it pointed out.

They thanked and expressed appreciation to the Chinese side for hosting this meeting, also thanking the Swiss government for its endeavors and efforts to take care of Saudi and Iranian interests, it noted.

The Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan renewed the invitation to Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian to visit the Kingdom and hold a bilateral meeting in the capital of Riyadh, the agency stated. (pickup previous)
