Saudi Arabia set to build two renewable energy power plants

JEDDAH, Saudi Arabia plans to develop two renewable energy-dependent power plants which will produce a collective 1,200 megawatts as part of plans to diversify its energy resources, the state news agency reported on Thursday.

Two land plots have been allocated, each with a 12 million square metre capacity, for the development of the renewable energy plants at Jeddah Third Industrial City and Rabigh Industrial City, both on the western Red Sea coast, the energy ministry said in a statement.

The country is working to provide a “perfect mix” for its domestic power consumption, replacing liquid fuel, currently used to provide its needs, with a 50/50 dependence on natural gas and renewables.
