Makkah: stc Group has said there was a record increase in the use of 5G network in the Makkah Region, where it reached an 87% user rate.

The group witnessed a significant increase in data traffic by more than 38% during the past 20 days of Ramadan compared to last year, where voice call volume also increased by 13% compared to last year.

This increase is testimony to the group’s dedication to enhancing the efficiency of its services and introducing the latest technology, together with the infrastructure needed to accommodate the influx of visitors during the holy month.

The substantial investments in expanding the 5G network ensure a distinctive digital experience and improved services to Umrah performers and visitors of the Grand Mosque, and the figures attest to its efficiency.

There has been an exceptional usage rate at the Grand Mosque this year, with 5G services accounting for more than 47% of the total network traffic for the first time, the culmination of efforts to adopt modern technology and make
use of the advantages offered by 5G.

Facebook topped the list of data-consuming applications on stc network in and around the Grand Mosque, followed by Snapchat, TikTok, YouTube, and WhatsApp.

These numbers reflect stc’s early preparations and continuous expansions of its network on the premises of the Two Holy Mosques, to provide a seamless and enjoyable experience for users wishing to document their memories.

International call traffic also increased, reflecting stc network’s vital role in helping boost communication between visitors and their beloved ones around the world.
