Ten Kuwaitis laid to rest at military funeral 30 years after Iraqi invasion

The remains of 10 Kuwaiti men, who lost their lives in the Iraqi invasion of 1990, were laid to rest at a military funeral in their honour after they were received from the Iraqi government on Wednesday.

Crowds of mourners, including Interior Minister Sheikh Thamer Ali Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah, attended the proceedings, offering their condolences to the families of the deceased and praising their heroism, courage and valour.

They hailed the martyrs for having sacrificed their lives for their country and having set a great example of patriotism.

The deceased individuals’ names were earlier announced by Kuwaiti authorities between November 2020 and March 2021 after their genetic profiles were identified by Interior Ministry officials, Foreign Ministry Prisoners and Missing Persons Affairs Committee Director Rabea Al-Adsani said.

They had been prisoners of war in Iraq, apprehended during the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait in 1990, Al-Adsani explained.

The Kuwaiti official went on to thank Iraqi authorities, the Tripartite and Technical Subcommittees, the International Committee of the Red Cross and the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) for their contributions which led to determining the fate of the missing Kuwaitis.
