Time Has Come to Amend Press and Publishing Code to Decide on Organizing Electronic Media (Minister)

Replying to a question about the organization of the electronic media, presented by the group of the National Rally of Independents (RNI) during the weekly session of oral questions, the Minister stressed that the sector of the electronic media is characterized by a kind of anarchy due to the existence of many undeclared news websites, which are in an illegal situation.

Reporting 1,215 news sites declared as of September 2022, Bensaid explained that the “anarchy” that the sector is due to the Code of the press and publishing, noting that many newspapers declared are not structured companies and do not pay the rights to social protection.

The current government, which has worked on this issue has organized a meeting that brought together all parties concerned and during which the new model of the national press company, operating at national and international levels, was discussed in light of the external challenges facing the country, said Bensaid.

A new decree aimed at modernizing the media company has been developed by the ministry and is under review at the Ministry of Budget for it to be ready and published in the official bulletin in the coming weeks, he said.

This new decree, which will be in the form of a framework agreement that brings together the ministry and the media company, will include the terms of reference to establish, first, the governance of public support and encourage, then, the modernization and development of media companies according to established objectives, said the minister, noting that an assessment will be made to that effect every six months.
