UNSC expresses deep concern at armed clashes in Sudan

The United Nations Security Council has expressed deep concern at the flare-up of armed clashes between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces.

The UNSC in a press release on Sunday regretted that the fighting inflicted casualties and losses, urged the warring parties to cease hostile actions instantly, restore calm and resume dialogue to settle the current crisis in Sudan.

It underlined necessity to ensure safety of the UN personnel, reiterated commitment to Sudan’s unity, independence and territorial sanctity.

Fighting broke out on Saturday between the army troops and the paramilitary forces amid stalemate in the political process.

The Sudanese doctors commission declared that the violence has left so far 56 deaths and 595 wounded.
