US economy adds 253,000 jobs in April

The US economy added 253,000 jobs in April, as the unemployment rate fell to 3.4 percent from 3.5 percent, according to data released Friday by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Employment continued to trend up in professional and business services, health care, leisure and hospitality and social assistance, the Bureau of Labor Statistics said.

Both the labor force participation rate, at 62.6 percent and the employment-population ratio, at 60.4 percent, were unchanged in April.

These measures remain below their pre-pandemic February 2020 levels.

President Joe Biden tweeted in this regard saying, “we just learned we created 253,000 jobs in April.” “That’s 12.7 million jobs since I took office, an unemployment rate that is the lowest since 1969, and the highest share of working age people in the workforce since 2008,” he added.

He continued “my plan to invest in America is working.”
