US pledges additional USD 100 mln aid for quake-hit Turkiye, Syria

WASHINGTON, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced an additional USD 100 million assistance in response to the devastating earthquake in Turkiye and Syria. He said in a statement on Sunday that President Joe Biden “intends to authorize USD 50 million in Emergency Refugee and Migration Assistance Funds (ERMA).” “In addition, the United States is also providing an additional USD 50 million in humanitarian assistance through the State Department and USAID.

“This humanitarian assistance will target vulnerable earthquake-affected populations in Turkiye and Syria and be available to support international and nongovernmental organizations providing assistance,” Secretary Blinken affirmed.

The US will “continue working with the international community to provide lifesaving aid to earthquake affected areas,” he added.

This brings the total US humanitarian assistance to support the earthquake response to USD 185 million.
