Voters in fifth constituency to choose their representative amid health restrictions

Voters in Kuwait’s Fifth Constituency head to polling stations on Saturday in the 14th by-election, amid health restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Fourteen candidates running for the National Assembly 14th by-election in the Fifth Constituency and one member to fill the vacancy of a seat occupied by Bader Zayed Al-Azmi.

Voting will kick off at 8 am until 8 pm (local time), after which the heads of the committees will announce the end of the voting process.

The voting health precautions included taking into account not to gather outside and inside polling stations, wearing masks, sterilizing hands, and wearing gloves before entering the polling center.

The Ministry of Interior provided a service for inquiring about the registration number and place of voting on the ministry’s website.

The Department of Elections Affairs at the Ministry of Interior also provided a hotline number (1889888), where voters can inquire about their polling station.

Last Tuesday, the Interior Ministry affirmed that the Elections Affairs Department was ready for the voting process, which will take place in 165 committees distributed over 27 schools, including the main committee, and 13 schools for males and the same for females.

By-election is held in line with Article 84 of the Constitution, which stipulated that elections are held within two months following the vacancy of a parliamentary seat. The mandate of the new member shall last until the end of that of his predecessor.

Since the 1963 legislative elections, by-elections were held for different reasons: either bypassing of a member, a resignation, or annulment of results.
