Rabat – The current water stress in Morocco calls for very rational management of water resources, said, on Thursday in Rabat, Minister Delegate for Relations with Parliament and Government Spokesman, Mustapha Baitas.

Asked at a press briefing following the Government Council meeting on the measures adopted in several of the Kingdom’s provinces to prevent water wastage, Baitas said that the scarcity of rainfall had led to a mobilization of the Executive, noting that awareness-raising was one of the government’s priorities for preserving water resources and rationalizing their use.

In this regard, the Minister highlighted the personal attention and special interest HM King Mohammed VI pays to this strategic issue, notably through the Sovereign’s chairmanship of working sessions on water, noting that the government attaches paramount importance to this issue, through mobilizing substantial financial and human resources, and setting up vigilance committees at national level to ensure meticulous and responsibl
e monitoring of this issue.

The government, he added, is striving to speed up the implementation of projects under the National Drinking Water Supply and Irrigation Program, which includes the construction of several dams and the optimal use of their water, the desalination of sea water, and the interconnection of water basins, following the example of the connection of the Sebou and Bouregreg basins, achieved thanks to Moroccan expertise and in a very short space of time.
