Yemeni PLC appreciates Saudi economic assistance

Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) Rashad Al-Alimi said the economic assistance, announced earlier Tuesday by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, sent a message to the Houthi rebels that the Yemeni people were not left alone.

“It is time for the Houthi militias who used all means of sabotage to put the national interests of the Yemeni people above those of their own leaders, listen to the voice of wisdom and prioritize the option of peace,” he said in a press release from his office.

The statement followed an announcement of an economic aid package from the Kingdom amounting in value to USD 1.2 billion for Yemen.

“The assistance reaffirms the Kingdom’s honorable approach to supporting the Yemeni people and the constitutional legitimacy, and alleviating the humanitarian disaster in Yemen.

“It also signals the Kingdom’s commitment to protecting the legitimate rights of the Yemeni people to peace, security, and rebuilding of the state institutions,” Al-Alimi pointed out.

The attitude of the Kingdom, under the leadership of King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman, is held in high esteem by the Yemeni people; it also represents a safety valve for Yemen and other countries in the region, he went on.

Al-Alimi spoke highly of the efforts of the economic teams of both countries and the Saudi program for the development and reconstruction in Yemen, saying that those efforts bore fruit with this generous contribution.

The Saudi aid is designed to bridging Yemen’s budget gap and paying the salaries of civil servants, according report by the Saudi Press Agency.
