Al-Mandalawi: The time has come to pay attention to our Baghdadi heritage and the engineering and architectural identity of our capital

The First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Mohsen Al-Mandalawi, said that the time has come to pay attention to our Baghdadi heritage and the engineering and architectural identity of our capital.

Al-Mandalawi counted, according to a statement by his media office, that Al-Kifah region is one of the oldest areas of the capital, Baghdad, which still retains its authentic Baghdadi heritage and historical buildings, which everyone has a responsibility to preserve as part of the identity of our ancient history and civilization.

The statement indicated that Al-Mandalawi made a field tour, today, Saturday, accompanied by the Mayor of Baghdad, Ammar Musa Kadhem, and the advanced engineering staff in the Municipality departments, where the start of the project to develop Al-Kifah Street, its heritage buildings, and the nearby areas was announced in a manner befitting its historical status and serving the public interest and the honorable people of the region.

The First Deputy confirmed: that the countries of the world find it greatly interested in buildings and facades that are fifty years old or a little more and consider them heritage buildings that cannot be touched, while the capital, Baghdad, maintains buildings that are more than one hundred years old and more, and they are now suffering from neglect and demolitions outside the controls, and the time has come to pay attention With our Baghdadi heritage, and the engineering and architectural identity of our capital, not to mention the need of the residents of these areas for services like others.

Al-Mandalawi added: “This project is to restore and maintain the facades of the traditional Al-Kifah Street buildings, cover the main street and its side streets, and perform maintenance on services such as water, electricity networks, sanitation, etc. as part of the (Baghdad – with our eyes) campaign, which will include the revival of heritage buildings within a larger area in the future.
