KUNA… National message during Iraqi invasion

Iraqi military forces may have succeeded in sabotaging and confiscating Kuwait News Agency’s (KUNA) equipment and archive during the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait in 1990 but they failed to destroy KUNA’s spirit and its national duty.

In October 1990, shortly after the invasion had started, KUNA resumed its national role and started broadcasting its news bulletin from London. The focus of this role was to highlight and emphasize the legitimacy and independence of the state of Kuwait as a sovereign country recognized by the United Nations and international organizations and its right to its land. During the period from October 3 1990 to November 1991, KUNA was able to broadcast about 16,110 news items until its return to its permanent headquarter in Kuwait where it was fully functional by 1992
