Kuwait minister to face grilling “in line” with constitution

Kuwait’s Minister of State for National Assembly Affairs Barak Al-Shaitan said on Monday that he would deal with a grilling motion lodged against him by a lawmaker “in line” with constitutional procedures.

The minister’s grilling, as requested by lawmaker Jenan Boushehri, is slated for parliament’s forthcoming session, Kuwait’s chief lawmaker Ahmad Al-Saadoun said, citing the motion has been submitted to His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Nawaf Al-Sabah.

Boushehri wants to quiz the minister on grounds of “abuse of power” and assigning leadership roles to “unqualified” individuals, in addition to the minister’s “failure” to carry out his mandate.

Separately, lawmaker Mubarak Al-Hajraf has requested to grill Finance Minister Abdulwahab Al-Rushaid over allegations of public funds mismanagement, which is also scheduled for the next session of parliament.
