Bahrain Crown Prince inaugurates UK Naval Support Facility

MANAMA, Bahrain’s Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa and Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, visited Bahrain Defence Force (BDF)’s Mina Salman base to jointly open the UK Naval Support Facility (NSF).

The Crown Prince who doubles as Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister said the opening of the NSF represents an important milestone in Bahrain and the United Kingdom’s joint efforts to support regional security and stability, and a clear indication of the strength of relations between the two countries.

He commended the growing defense cooperation with Britain saying the two countries played a pivotal role in ensuring stability and peace in the Gulf region for over 90 years.

“The close cooperation with international partners and allies remains an essential component of Bahrain’s comprehensive development program, led by King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa,” BNA quoted him as saying at the opening ceremony.

The Crown Prince also praised King Hamad’s continued support for the bilateral relationship, which has served to deepen friendship and cooperation across a range of areas.

On his part, the Duke of York delivered highlighted the role of the Bahraini King and Queen Elizabeth II, of the UK, in strengthening bilateral relations.

He noted that the NSF would serve the common interests of both countries.

The Duke of York added that both countries share the desire to open new horizons for cooperation and strengthen their partnership.

Also speaking at the ceremony, Bahraini Foreign Minister Sheikh Khaled bin Ahmed Al Khalifa noted that the launch of the NSF opens a new chapter in a defense relationship and cements the relationship between the two Kingdoms.

He affirmed that the strong partnership between the British Royal Navy and the Royal Bahrain Naval Force forms an important component of bilateral ties.
