OIR partner force captures IS militants in deconfliction S. Syria

The Maghawir Al-Thowra (MaT), a Combined Joint Task Force Operation Inherent Resolve (OIR) partner force in Syria, detained nine so-called Islamic State (IS) in Iraq and Syria militants, CENTOM announced Saturday.

The nine IS militants were traveling through the 55-kilometer deconfliction zone (DCZ) located in southern Syria, it said in a statement.

The MaT “interdicted the terrorists, believed to be traveling from southwestern Syria, while conducting a unilateral counter-(IS) patrol,” it added.

MaT members conduct daily counter-IS patrols to provide security and stability within the DCZ to support coalition forces and Operation Inherent Resolve in the defeat IS mission, it noted.

An OIR commander described the interdiction as “another example of the professional and effective work conducted by the OIR partner force. This further demonstrates their commitment to ensuring the defeat of (IS) in Syria,” according to the statement.
