Sudanese civilian forces reach out to Arab League to halt fighting

The Sudanese civilian forces that had signed the framework conciliation deal called on the Secretary General of the Arab League Ahmad Abul-Gheit to intervene to stop the fighting.

The Arab League said in a statement on Sunday, that Aboul Gheit received a letter from the Sudanese civilian forces in which they present their point of view on the desired role of the League to stop the ongoing war.

In the letter, the Sudanese civilian forces requested from Aboul Gheit to communicate with the leaders of the armed forces and to urge them to stop the fight and to reject any external interventions, it said.

It added that the Sudanese civilian forces also called for supporting the transition to a political process leading to an agreement by all parties on new constitutional arrangements, under which an agreed-upon civilian authority is established. In addition, to implement a reform program during a short transitional period that leads to a general elections and obtain Arab relief support to confront the humanitarian catastrophe inside and outside Khartoum.
