Turkey is planning erect camps for the displaced in northern Syria, a spokesman of the foreign ministry announced on Tuesday.
The spokesman said at a news conference that Turkish relief associations had begun preparing to build a camp that could accommodate 170,000 people in nine regions in the north of Syria.
He indicated that the Turkish authorities had scrambled to set up these camps in anticipation of relocation of large numbers of people from the contested town of Afrin.
Afrin is currently target of an ongoing Turkish military operation aimed at dislodging separatist Kurds from the region, located close to the Syrian-Turkish borders.
