Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar Al Abadi said on Tuesday there is huge pressure from several global firms to book places at a pledging conference for Iraq’s reconstruction hosted by Kuwait.
At a press conference ahead of the February 12 talks, he said European companies have twice exceeded their share of assigned seats while the US has closed the door to further applications, adding there will also be a large turnout for regional firms.
Al Abadi said this reflects these firms’ keenness to enter the Iraqi market, and contribute effectively to rebuilding projects in Iraq, particularly amid the improved security situation in the country and diminishing fears of investors.
Iraqi officials have completed their preparations ahead of attending the conference, said the prime minister, who reiterated his gratitude for Kuwait’s hosting and sponsorship of the event.
Over 400 international businesses are expected to attend the Kuwait hosted talks alongside dozens of governments
