BRUSSELS, GDP rose by 0.3 percent in the European Union (EU) and by 0.2 percent in the euro area during the fourth quarter of 2018, compared with the previous quarter, according to an estimate published Thursday by Eurostat, the EU’s statistical office.
Compared with the same quarter of the previous year, GDP rose by 1.1 percent in the euro area and by 1.4 percent in the EU in the fourth quarter of 2018.
Over the whole year 2018, GDP rose by 1.8 percent in the euro area and by 1.9 percent in the EU.
Meanwhile, Eurostat estimated that in the fourth quarter of 2018, 239 million people were employed in the EU, of whom 158 million were in the euro area.
These are the highest levels of employment ever recorded in both areas, it noted.
