Iran denies France’s request to release detained French-Iranian nat’l

TEHRAN, Iran denied on Friday a request by the French Foreign Ministry to release the French-Iranian national Fariba Adelkhah.

A statement by Foreign Ministry spokesman Abbas Mousavi said, “dual citizenship of Iranian nationals is not recognized under the laws of the Islamic Republic of Iran therefore, Fariba Adelkhah is an Iranian citizen and as an Iranian, she enjoys all the citizenship rights known to Iranian nationals.” The French Foreign Ministry’s demand is considered meddling in Iranian inner affairs, he said, pointing out “not only these measures will not help resolve the issue, it will also complicate the judicial process,” the statement noted.

Last Thursday, Paris demanded the release of Adelkhah; a senior research fellow at Sciences Po University in Paris. She had been detained by Tehran on unspecified charges earlier this year.
