German Chancellor Angela Merkel said Friday the so-called Islamic State (IS) group sill poses a serious threat to the world peace and security.
The terrorist group has not been totally eradicated although it lost a lot of its combat ability and the territory it used to control in Iraq and Syria, she said.
Merkel made the comments while inaugurating the new building of the Federal Intelligence Service (BND) in Berlin.
The situations in Syria remain to be among the priorities of the BND which works to protect the safety of the citizens in Germany and Europe against possible attacks from the IS, she went on.
Calling for doubling the diplomatic efforts to resolve the Syrian crisis, Merkel noted that the Arab country has still a long way to go in order to restore security and stability. (end) anj.mmj.gb
