TUNIS, Italy’s Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio on Tuesday stressed that there was no military solution to the crisis in Libya, stressing his country’s support to the UN Envoy Ghassan Salamah political efforts.
This came during a meeting between the Italian minister and the Libyan Presidential Council Chairman Fayez Al-Sarraj, said the Government of National Accord in a statement.
Di Maio expressed Italy’s hope that the next Berlin conference achieves harmony among all countries concerned in the Libyan affair, the statement added.
For his part, Al-Sarraj praised the Italian support to the government of national accord and its efforts in helping Libya overcome its crisis, indicated the statement.
Di Maio arrived in Libya earlier today for talks with the nation’s warring parties in a shuttle diplomacy bid to end the eight-year-long conflict.
