OIC deplores attack on Alexandria police convoy

JEDDAH, The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation fiercely condemned a bomb attack in the Egyptian city of Alexandria, which killed and injured several security forces, as a “despicable criminal act.” Egyptian police said that the source of the blast was a roadside bomb, which targeted the convoy of the provincial chief of police.

No group has said it carried out the attack, which killed one policeman and hurt four others.

In a statement, OIC Secretary General Yousef Al-Othaimeen expressed full support of Egypt’s war on terror, adding the OIC firmly rejects all forms of violence, fundamentalism and terrorism, whatever its motives.

The head of the Jeddah-based organisation went on to urge a coordinated response to terrorism, tackling it through security and ideological means.
