LONDON, The UK government on Thursday voiced support for a ceasefire in Libya in a bid to put an end to the deteriorating security situation in this war-torn Arab country.
This came in a brief statement released by UK Prime Minister Theresa May’s Office following a meeting between May and visiting Libyan Prime Minister Fayez Al-Sarraj.
Al-Sarraj is in London as part of a European tour that has already taken him to Rome and Paris.
The UK prime minister voiced concern over the latest situation in Libya, but supported any development that could lead to a ceasefire.
Al-Sarraj’s European tour aims at looking into the future of the political process in Libya in the aftermath of a recent attack by army forces led by General Khalifa Haftar with the goal of controlling the capital Tripoli.
