US raises China Travel Advisory to “Do Not Travel”

WASHINGTONThe US Department of State has raised the Travel Advisory Level for China to Level 4 “Do Not Travel” due to novel coronavirus.

The Travel Advisory noted that “travelers should be prepared for travel restrictions to be put into effect with little or no advance notice.” “Those currently in China should consider departing using commercial means,” it added.

The Department of State has requested that “all non essential US government personnel defer travel to China in light of the novel coronavirus.” It reiterated that the US government has “limited ability to provide emergency services to US citizens in Hubei province.” This comes as the World Health Organization (WHO) has determined “the rapidly spreading outbreak constitutes a Public Health Emergency of International Concern.” The highly communicable coronavirus has killed 170 persons and infected more than 7,900 others in China since December.
